New Android App Works Like A Security Search Engine Against Malicious Apps

A new app in town could save millions from fraudulent apps in the Android ecosystem.The "BeVigil" app works as a search engine for apps, helping users identify and avoid potentially harmful apps. It does so by providing users with "detailed information about the security and privacy practices of their favorite mobile apps," a press release stated.


Built by CloudSEK, the BeVigil apps lets users search for apps by name. It then displays detailed information including its permissions and data collection practices.

“BeVigil not only helps a user identify the security and risk of an app but our mobile app would also help bug bounty researchers to report bugs to different companies developing mobile apps which will help them improve the mobile security of the application. On the whole, we want BeVigil to contribute towards the security community by improving mobile security for all,” said Rahul Sasi, co-founder and CEO, CloudSEK.



For a year, BeVigil was running as a web application and has already scanned and scored over a million apps. Now, it is available to download on the Google Play Store.

The app has a variety of features including a security score for all apps installed on your device. In addition, it provides detailed security reports and real-time notifications for new apps.

Most users struggle with permissions. BeVigil is able to inform users which permissions should be turned off to protect one's data. Trackers, too, are shown in the app to help people see what data is being tracked. Users can also inform app developers quickly for any security issues.


BeVigil is able to pinpoint exposed keys and URLs in mobile apps. It can also detect potential malware and vulnerabilities in mobile apps, acting as a shield against threats.
